I (Bob Speck, PE) was a structural / architectural engineer for over 30 years. I performed published research work while completing his master’s degree years ago at RPI and was previously a partner in a large structural engineering consulting firm in Troy, NY. I worked on many types of building structures: hospitals, college buildings, parking structures, commercial and historic structures, residences, and special structures. Since moving to Vermont in 1996, I focused my work on sustainable home design, timber framing, and building revitalization work.
I maintained a small private practice called Gaia Structures, LLC (see www.gaiastructures.com) in which I consulted with timber framers on home and barn design projects (see pictures below; see also www.vtbarns.com).
I received a graduate-level sustainable design certification over 10 years ago at Boston Architectural College, and have maintained a lifelong Earth-friendly perspective in my work and in my life.
I currently do not perform these services any longer, focusing instead on my yoga teaching and coaching work. I refer structural engineering projects to other engineering firms.
