{"id":1354,"date":"2014-09-21T11:14:30","date_gmt":"2014-09-21T15:14:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/amentorwalkswithme.com\/?p=1354"},"modified":"2014-09-21T11:14:30","modified_gmt":"2014-09-21T15:14:30","slug":"dignity-and-mindfulness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/amentorwalkswithme.com\/?p=1354","title":{"rendered":"Dignity and Mindfulness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A few weeks ago, I shared a personal vision that spoke of my intention to lead in a manner that inspires\u00a0<strong><em>dignity<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>I defined <em>dignity<\/em> as follows: <em>an internal state of peace that comes with the recognition and acceptance of the value and vulnerability of all living things.\u00a0(1)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>One might also think of <em>dignity<\/em>\u00a0as practicing non-judgmental awareness in a manner which leads to kindness and feelings of compassion for yourself and for others. One might also just think of this as practicing a higher level of respect for yourself and for others.<\/p>\n<p>Practicing this awareness in a sustainable way is what we might call <em>practicing loving-kindness <strong>mindfulness<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Here are some steps to help develop this practice: <em>(2)<\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Find yourself in a state of support and safety, perhaps somewhere where you feel connected to nature<\/li>\n<li>Set your intention, answering the question &#8220;What am I practicing?&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Cultivate a witnessing perspective, observing your thoughts like clouds drifting by, being aware of your inner landscape and old unhealthy autopilot reactions<\/li>\n<li>Stabilize attention and strengthen focus,\u00a0using the breathe as a tool to nurture the harmony of intention and attention<\/li>\n<li>Strengthen self-regulation, settling negative energies intentionally and shortening the time that it takes you to recover from emotional hijackings<\/li>\n<li>Practice loving-kindness meditation, calming the inner critic and practicing non-judgmental acceptance and compassion for yourself and others.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/amentorwalkswithme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Tetons-Maggies-Pictures-059.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-63\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/amentorwalkswithme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Tetons-Maggies-Pictures-059.jpg?resize=300%2C224\" alt=\"Tetons- Bob Meditating\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/amentorwalkswithme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Tetons-Maggies-Pictures-059.jpg?resize=300%2C224 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/amentorwalkswithme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Tetons-Maggies-Pictures-059.jpg?resize=1024%2C768 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/amentorwalkswithme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Tetons-Maggies-Pictures-059.jpg?resize=400%2C300 400w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/amentorwalkswithme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Tetons-Maggies-Pictures-059.jpg?w=1168 1168w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/amentorwalkswithme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Tetons-Maggies-Pictures-059.jpg?w=1752 1752w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I have led workshops or classes intended to help people heal, build self-esteem and resiliency, and find happiness. Many of these workshops have utilized outdoor education and strengths-based adventure as a means to build a sense of self and self-efficacy.
